Tips & Trips No. 7 – Pen Display 24, Pan/Scroll, Hide Updates, Quick Keys Optimization

04/27/2023

Hello All,

From where I’m sitting in my office in Southwest Washington state, it is not feeling much like Spring yet. I keep hoping, but the cold rain keeps coming.

On a super cool note, Xencelabs has released its first Pen Display, the Pen Display 24. And like any new arrival, there was much anticipation. We debuted it at GDC and were impressed with the comments from all levels of artists about how the Pen Display 24 surpassed their expectations. If you would like to take a look, please visit our website. We are truly excited and proud to offer this new choice for studio creatives.

Tip 1

Pan/Scroll is here -

You have been asking for Pan/Scroll and we have listened to you.

Pan/Scroll has been added as a selection to the Settings panel menu for Pens for both Windows and macOS platforms. Please view the link below to see how to assign it to a button on your Xencelabs pen.

Tip 2

Hide automatic updates -

For those of you that support a group of Xencelabs users on Windows or macOS platforms and would like to regulate when updates are applied. The Driver team has now made it possible to suppress the “Update available” message. You can now select to turn off the update notification in the Settings panel, so the use will not see the notification that a new driver is available. The link below will show you where you can set the Hide Automatic Updates check box.

Helpful Quick Keys settings for macOS users with Chrome –

This was submitted by Kev L. (Thanks, Kev!) on the Xencelabs forum, and with his permission, I’m sharing his helpful suggestions. If you like the idea of me selecting a forum post and including it in the Tips & Tricks, let me know.

Kev posted :
With Chrome I've settled on the following helpful actions (on my Quick Keys) for Chrome on my Mac

  • New tab (CMD+N)

  • New Incognito window (CMD+SHIFT+N)

  • Close tab (CMD+W)

  • Re-open a closed tab (CMD+SHIFT+T)

  • Paste & go - (CMD+L, CMD+V, CTRL+ENTER)

Kev added:
That last one is probably the most useful for me but causes the most trouble. It seemed to require two presses on the Quick Key to work as expected. After some experimenting, I found that adding an inconsequential CTRL in there with the ENTER command got it to perform the expected action in a single press. Imperfect but good enough.

If you would like to visit the Xencelabs forum and read through the post, there is a lot of good information and sharing listed there.andI would also encourage you to create a post of your own. I have placed the link below. And you never know, I might ask you if I can list your forum post in our Tips & Tricks Newsletter!
